Seventeen Year Drought Over For Conner

Lady Cougars beat Notre Dame for regional title

There were two big reasons why Conner headed back to the state tournament for the first time since 1991 and their names were Allison Long and Stephanie Hodges.

Long scored a game-high 25 points and Hodges added 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 79-64 win over Notre Dame in the girls’ Ninth Region championship game at Ryle High School.

The pair combined for 24 of Conner’s 28 fourth quarter points to help keep the Pandas from rallying. Long was 10-of-11 from the free throw line and scored 14 points while Hodges went 6-for-8 adding 10 points.

Sophomore guard Devin Beasley (11 points) and junior forward Gela Hayes (10) complimented Long and Hodges with solid games of their own. Hodges was named tournament MVP.

The Cougars were beaten 60-47 by Henderson County in the opening round of the Sweet Sixteen tournament at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green but still put together one of the best seasons in school history finishing with a record of 29-6.
