Bombers Bounced In State Semis

St. Edward beats St. X 68-59

It was a tale of two halves for St. Xavier in an Ohio Division I state semifinal contest against Cleveland St. Edward on Friday night at Value City Arena.

The Bombers, playing in their second straight Final Four, jumped out to a 35-25 halftime lead only to see their lead fall apart in the second half in losing 68-59 to the Eagles.

The Eagles (22-4) caught fire in the second half shooting 70 percent as they outscored St. X 43-24.  It was the opposite story in the first half, where the Bombers shot 66 percent.

Indiana recruit Tom Pritchard led St. Edward with a game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds.  The Eagles out-rebounded St. 34-21.

The Eagles were playing without two starters including Michigan State University recruit Delvon Roe and Alex Sterba who did not play because of injuries.

St. Xavier was ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press state poll while the Eagles entered the tournament unranked.

Seniors Walt Gibler and Brad Loesing closed out their high school careers with solid performances.  Gibler scored a team-high 24 points while Loesing added 17 points and four assists.  Senior Ryan Shiverdecker added nine points.
