North Bend Rugby Football Club Repeats As City
ChampsTeam represented by
several different local high schools
Their
colors are blue and white but they don’t play at Ballaban Field
or in the Greater Catholic League. Rest assured, however, that
Bomber blood runs deep in the North Bend Rugby Football Club,
which successfully defended its city championship and finished
fifth in the state of
Ohio.
Almost all
of the players from the North Bend Rugby Football Club hail from
St.
Xavier
High School.
The club won its second consecutive Cincinnati Youth Rugby
League championship, the club’s third city title, with a 35-14
victory over Indian Springs earlier this summer.
“This was
yet another tremendous year for the North Bend Rugby Football
Club. I am proud of our players, both from a performance
standpoint with our second city championship, and for what they
are becoming as young men,” said head coach Mike Mers.
The North
Bend Rugby Football Club plays home games at Brimelow Fields in
Fairfield, home of the local Division One rugby club Cincinnati
Wolfhounds, and competes against teams such as Shelbyville,
Eastside, Walnut Hills,
Northern
Kentucky,
Miami Valley and North Cincinnati. Though almost all the players
attend St. Xavier, Elder, LaSalle and
Mason
High Schools
are also represented on the squad. |
